Uplift Labs, whose AI-powered technology provides movement analytics to improve athletic performance and minimize injuries in sports, fitness and our everyday lives, today announced a $3M seed round of funding headlined by investments from Stadia Ventures and DEEPCORE Inc. The latest resources accelerate Uplift’s mission to democratize elite sports science and medicine to ensure remote training and coaching doesn’t sacrifice the benefits of in-person instruction.
In an increasingly virtual world, athletics coaches have been forced to adapt to training their teams, players and clients from afar. Unfortunately, even many of the nation’s elite coaches and instructors have become reliant on severely limited, asynchronous technology that was created for meetings and business communications, not optimizing human movement and performance. Passive, delayed and static, these solutions hinder the abilities of the teachers of the game to carry out their craft, while also stalling true athlete interaction and skill development. Unlike other streaming solutions, Uplift was built from the ground up to enable and empower coaches and trainers through real-time movement analytics that can be applied to correct form and improve technique on-the-fly.
Uplift changes the game through sophisticated live capabilities, instantaneous playback, group video and interactive features that produce an experience as close to “in-person” as possible. The company’s patented Movement Intelligence Platform makes it easy to analyze any athlete’s movement and identify areas for improvement and refinement – from swing mechanics in golf, baseball or tennis to footwork and shot form in basketball, soccer or lacrosse to posture and technique for fitness enthusiasts in weight training, or boxing – anytime and from anywhere using only Uplift’s software and iPhones or iPads.
Uplift Capture, the company’s enterprise-level solution, is in-use by professional sports teams and athletes at the highest level. They are taking advantage of the combination of real-time 3D kinematics and video processing to record, track and analyze key metrics, all without wearables or bulky hardware solutions and just by using two iPhones. The technology is being deployed by multiple professional baseball clubs, world-class hitting instructors and golf swing coaches, as well the nation’s most elite football, lacrosse and soccer academies, to reimagine what’s possible for training athletes whether they are on the court, field, or green.
Uplift, the company’s eponymous second product, builds on the foundation and learnings from Uplift Capture’s team and institutional users and expands accessibility to real-time biomechanical data and analysis to the masses. It’s an especially powerful tool for individual coaches looking to deliver greater value to their athletes and build their own brands and businesses.
Now available on the Web and via app (on Apple iOS for coaches and Apple and Android for athletes), Uplift boasts features like Spotlight (which can “zoom in” live on one athlete during a group session); Live Heart Rate Tracking; Live + Smart Annotations (for on-screen telestrator-like capabilities); Live Replay; and Live Video Sharing. It also provides tools to build and market an individual’s coaching or training business including website development, schedule management, end-to-end payments and community monetization.
“It’s an exciting time for Uplift Labs, as this investment has enabled us to bring movement analysis technology previously reserved for the most elite teams and players to the everyday athlete,” said Sukemasa Kabayama, the company’s Co-Founder and CEO. “Our Uplift product for personalized one-on-one or small group coaching, with its interactive, real-time capabilities, far surpasses other passive and static technology options for athletes aiming to maintain a high level of performance and train remotely.”
